CLAIR HELEN
TEXTILE ARTIST

In 2016 Clair completed her studies and obtained a Bachelor of Fashion from Whitehouse Institute of Design, Sydney. Clair was the Whitehouse Student of the Year for 2016. After graduating from the Whitehouse Institute of Design, she was selected by the Producer of the film “Tana” to design her dress for the 2017 Academy Awards Ceremony which is also known as the Oscars. She subsequently was awarded a competitive internship with the Jibs life in New York, to work alongside and be inspired by some incredible mentors.

Clair works with Aboriginal Tiwi fabrics that are hand-made from a local Tiwi women’s group of artists and designers called Bima Wear located in Wurrumiyanga, on Bathurst Island in the Northern Territory (NT). Clair drapes the fabric and improvises the silhouettes through the position of the prints, adding yarn embroidery to creating her own signature style. She wants to empower Indigenous communities through ethical sourcing of materials for fashion.
